STAIRS

Erbil – Iraq (Kurdistan)

The Erbil citadel is a wonderful place to wander. It’s a maze of narrow streets, empty mud-brick houses and dusty yards. This is a detail of stairs in one yard. There used to live around 3000 of Erbil’s poorest people here, many of them refugees from war affected areas of Iraq. However at the end of 2006 almost all people were moved to other parts of the city and now only one family remains there in order to keep 8000 years of continuosity of living there. The citadel is under reconstruction now.
